My oldest nephew, Jake, returned home from his mission in Taiwan during Thanksgiving week- one of the main reasons we wanted to head on up to Utah for the holiday. He was supposed to get in Tuesday night to the Idaho Falls Airport. Then the Lundins were going to head down to my parents house in Cedar Hills sometime on Wednesday to spend Thanksgiving with us. Well that just didn't happen. There was a huge snowstorm Tuesday "The biggest storm in 7 years," or so the media said. While we really didn't see the storm a whole lot of action in Cedar Hills, Salt Lake got quite a bit of snow. Jakes plane flew to Salt Lake, circled the airport about 10 times, and then made its way to Vegas to land/fuel up/wait. His whole family had driven a half hour to Idaho Falls in the icy snow and was waiting for his arrival all night. His plane never came and there was no one there to help them find out where Jakes plane was because they were out helping other planes who de-ice and fuel up because they too were not able to land in Salt Lake. We started checking his flight status for them and was getting mixed information...flight was on time (an hour and a half after it was supposed to land in Idaho), flight was cancelled, flight was just delayed. They finally heard from Jake in Vegas a couple hours later and he told them what had happened. Such a bummer!...after waiting 2 years to see him, they were just going to have to wait another day. Jake finally made it to Salt Lake the next morning at 10 am but still couldn't get a flight to Idaho Falls. He ended up having a friend pick him up from the SLC airport and drive him home. The 4 hour car ride took twice as long due to the icy roads but he finally made it home that evening. Anyway, the Lundins weren't able to make it for Thanksgiving. We did see them the next day and had a warm welcome home for Elder Lundin. It was so great to see him again.
